Unleashing data's power

IWIS is about unleashing the power of data to help make informed policy decisions. It's about the practicality of taking data already being collected by the state and developing new ways to make it useful. Most of all, it's about making data actionable on behalf of the citizens, students and workers of Indiana.

Four agencies came together united by a need to get more intelligence out of data they already collected or used—the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the Indiana Business Research Center at IU's Kelley School of Business and later, the Indiana Department of Education.

Each of these had a piece of the school-to-work-to-school-to-work puzzle. Some brought technology combined with statistical expertise, others had deep, deep knowledge about the information collected for a variety of programs, but that could be used meaningfully if combined with other data from other agencies.
